There are other benefits that you can get form a flat LCD TV, besides the low profile and extra space. For instance, it offers the highest resolution of any other kind of television. This amazing television also seems to have no glare at all because it has a very low glare. Top Brands

The top brands are LG, Phillips, Samsung, Sony, Vizio, Westinghouse, and Panasonic. Screens come in a variety of sizes all the way from 15 inches to 57 inches. The smaller screen models are best for office or kitchen use. The medium sizes, 26 to 37 inches, would be great in a bedroom or small living room. With the increasing popularity of HDTV, watching a DVD movie at home is a great entertainment experience. The picture is sharp, clear, and vibrant. But what about the sound? After all, that is one of the real attractions of going to a movie theater, the wraparound sound that lets you hear every detail. So is there a way to bring that kind of audio into our homes too? Absolutely!

Actually surround sound has been around for a while now in one form or another, but it just never had a platform to bring it into the mainstream before HDTV and digital media like the DVD became so prevalent. But now by combining the right equipment, a person can actually very closely simulate the movie theater experience right in the comfort of their home whenever they want.

For surround sound, you will need three things, (1) a digital source that has surround sound already encoded into it such as a DVD or a HDTV broadcast, (2) equipment to decode that surround sound signal, and (3) at least 6 speakers including a subwoofer to take full advantage of the most popular 5.1 surround sound format. It's called 5.1 because it use 5 channels of sound to drive 5 separate speakers, and the .1 stands for the low-frequency subwoofer.

Once you have the equipment you need to establish a surround sound setup that will be right for your home. Much of the seating area will be determined by the size and type of TV that you have. If it is a 40" HDTV, which is a very common size, you can probably sit about 5-8 feet away and not notice any degradation in the picture quality. Just experiment with the seating distance until it seems comfortable though. Then the two front speakers usually flank the TV, but make sure that they are wide enough to form a triangle with the seating area so everyone will be in the sound sweet spot.

The two back speakers are often placed somewhere around the seating area and faced either to a side or rear wall. The middle speaker needs to be situated somewhere close to the TV, and the subwoofer can be put anywhere in the room that you like, since it puts out such low frequency bass that seems to come from everywhere.

Every room has different listening characteristics though due to it's configuration and furnishings, so feel free to experiment around until you find the combination that works best for you. A surround sound installation may seem challenging, but it's just simply getting the right equipment and placing the speakers where they produce the best overall sound.

HDTV Ratings - What to Look For When Buying an High Definition Display

When reviewing HDTV ratings one should really look for important features that will help them choose the proper high definition television depending on what type of media they plan on using with the system. There are many features and technical specifications that are used inside any HDTV ratings system. Some of the most important are:

Native Resolution - this is basically the number of horizontal pixels x vertical pixels that the HDTV can display. The higher the native resolution the better. A 1080p display will have a native resolution of 1920x1080 and any native resolution lower than that is not 1080p. Any native resolution lower than 1280x720 (720p) is not true high definition and one should really be choosing a system with 1080p resolution as the prices now have come down. People might say there is not that much 1080p media to play on your 1080p tv, even if that were true, there will be much much more 1080p media to watch in the near future.... most of which is already here on HD DVD and Blu Ray disks.

Contrast Ratio - this is basically the difference between a white pixel (brightest) to that of a black pixel (darkest). The higher the ratio the better. A contrast ratio of 10,000:1 will produce absolutely amazing picture quality with a 1080p TV. Some manufactures will boast a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 or 15,000 but it really is dynamic contrast ratio. You have to watch out for this when looking at LCD displays. LCD displays usually have a much lower native contrast ratio and will advertise dynamic contrast ratio which is basically the amount of dark and bright luminosity that the system is able to produce over time.

Standard Definition - this is any type of media that is not high definition such as DVDs, VHS, some satellite signals and regular cable television. hi-def displays do have the ability to display these types of signals but some do so very poorly and the picture quality really suffers when playing these types of media. Many people still watch only cable television and have large DVD collections, so if the television does not display standard definition that well your viewing pleasure will suffer.

Video Processor - this is basically the micro chip inside the hi-def television that processes all the high definition and other signals coming into the system. If the display has a poor video processor then it will produce lower picture quality when playing high definition and standard definition. So what is one to do? well, it would take too long for most people to research video processors and which ones are used in various high definition displays. When reading HDTV ratings always look for the reviewers' statements on picture quality and how it displays various types of scenes and signals.

The most effective tool you can use when buying an high definition display is your eyes. When shopping for your next television, bring some media you like to watch, like a favorite DVD, or favorite type of movie (action, computer animated or sports, drama, cartoons...) and have the store clerk play it for your on the system if possible to judge for yourself. Just remember one thing, the high definition displays in the stores are not calibrated and are using their "out of the box" default display settings, so just one thing to keep in mind when viewing your media as when properly calibrated, the picture quality is greatly enhanced. Now if the television you are looking for is online then what you really need to do is read those HDTV ratings and especially read the user reviews. User reviews are statements made by people that already purchased the television and have written what they thought and how they like the television, very important.

There are other factors to take in and are more complicated, however, most people do not have the time for those and ultimately if the HDTV produces great picture quality on your favorite types of media then that is what people are really looking for.

Since I bought my TV, all of my friends and family have commented and complimented on it. I sometimes find it hard getting rid of them! I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who's looking for the best quality available - because that's exactly what you get with this TV.

LCD televisions are television sets that use LCD technology, just like in the computer LCD monitors, tuned up for video and television display. Many features of LCD Television rendered it more practical than CRT TVs and thus LCD TVs began to gain instant popularity among the consumers.
LCD televisions are referred to as "transmissive display", because light is not emitted by the liquid crystals themselves. A light source behind the panels emits light that gets redirected by a white panel to the rear of LCD, which distributes the light evenly to generate uniform image. This is the basic principle behind the working of LCD televisions.
The LCD tv display has a liquid crystal solution sandwiched between two polarizing transparent crystals. In order to form a template for the liquid crystal, the front layer glass of the display is etched on the inside in a grid pattern. These crystals bend light in response to an electric current and each crystal behaves like a shutter either allowing light to pass through or blocking it. So a pattern of dark and transparent crystal are formed that generates the image.
LCD televisions have their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The LCD TVs do not have a rapid pixel response time and thus in cases of fast moving objects exhibit motion lag. Improvements have been made to overcome this defect, however this works only if your screen size is lesser than 35 inch. The bigger the screen gets, fast action videos create more of ghosting effect and they video becomes highly indistinct. Since LCD TVs use LCD panels, many LCD televisions do not have the capacity to go fully black, rather blacks appear to be darker gray.
LCD TVs are also quite expensive compared to their CRT counterparts. Especially when it comes to sizes over 35 inch and the ones with a 16:9 aspect ratio are very expensive. However with continuous research and improvement, the manufacturing price of the LCD televisions fell and eventually LCD TVs began to dominate the market.
Though LCD TVs suffer quite a few drawbacks, there are more advantages that cancels out the few imperfections. The major and obvious advantage is that LCD televisions are easier to watch. LCDs offer more brightness and contrast than CRT televisions and perform well under almost every light atmosphere. Even under bright light ambiance, the images of the display do not appear washed out. Also, the display does not suffer glare due to surrounding lights. Since most flat screen LCD television displays can have a viewing angle of 160 degrees, the video will look agreeable from anywhere under 80 degrees on both sides.
Unlike plasma televisions, you will not have to worry about image burn-in, ideal for gaming usage. This is because colors are created using filters and the display screen is not coated with phosphor dots. Also LCD televisions are multifunctional; you can use them either as an HDTV player, home video player or as a monitor for your PC.
The screen size of LCDs range typically from 13 - 65 inches and there are brands that manufacturer displays up to 100 inches. The slim profile television is also economical in the sense that it does not require much maintenance.

What is the Difference Between Plasma and LCD TV

When we discuss the differences between plasma and lcd tv's there are two ways to look at it. From the technical standpoint and from the point-of-view of the person watching TV.
The difference from the technical side is complicated yet unimportant. Most people do not care whether the picture comes from a liquid or a gas. Yet that is the major difference: LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display, while Plasma TV's employ thousands of gas bubbles to create the picture.
The only difference that any of this makes to the person watching the TV is how long it will last. In truth, both displays will last long enough that two things will happen before your picture begins to deteriorate: First, you will get bored of you old TV and want a new TV long before the picture wears out, second, the other components in the TV will go first. The connectors, the sound, even the buttons are likely to malfunction before the picture goes.
This brings us to the second point of this discussion; what is the difference to the viewer. This is a far more important question because it brings the enjoyment of the viewing experience to the fore.
To determine the differences between the two and what it means to you, we need to ask a number of questions: What size screen do you want, in what room will the TV sit, what are your viewing preferences (TV shows, Movies, Sports, Video Games etc).
1. What size screen to you want? This is important because if you want the largest size screen possible, plasma gives you two advantages. You will get more screen for your money, plasma can sustain a high quality picture at a larger size than an LCD.
2. In what room will the TV sit? If you want to put your TV in your living room, then LCD is less reflective and will give you a better view of the screen. If you are putting it in a basement, or recreation room, then the reflection does not matter as much and you can defer to the other questions.
3. What are your viewing preferences? If you are a sports person then Plasma can sustain faster action better than a regular LCD. However, LCD has a 120hz frequency which will give you very good fast action rendering. If you are a regular TV show person then a normal size LCD is best for you.
As you can see there is no one answer for whether Plasma or LCD is better for you. Decide what you want and choose what is the best for you.

Should a New Energy Efficient Plasma TV Be in Your Future?

In increasing numbers, consumers shopping for a new television have the question of whether they should choose an LCD or plasma as their primary concern. Certainly, both plasma and LCD technologies offer excellent high definition viewing with respectable viewing angles and good color saturation and brightness. While plasma has the advantage in low light situations, LCD displays excel in rooms with brighter ambient light due to better protection against glare. The two television technologies also experience equivalent longevity making them dependable for many years. Both offer the same slim profile making them aesthetically appealing, modern, and unobtrusive within any living space.
However, plasma TV has lagged a bit with consumers in recent years despite its price advantage over LCD. This hesitancy on the part of consumers appears to be due to plasma's early history of problems with burn in. This is unwarranted however, as the risk of burn in is very minimal since the technology for plasma has matured and such issues are essentially resolved.
There is however the lingering issue of excessive power consumption associated with plasma screens over the somewhat more energy conscious LCD displays. Plasma TV in fact, can be said to contribute unnecessarily to CO2 emissions based on their demanding energy needs. This powerful appetite can also eat away at a user's pocketbook through their monthly energy bill. Recent developments however may put the reputation of power junkie behind for plasma TV and tilt the advantage back toward plasma.
Panasonic has developed a more energy efficient prototype plasma display which was introduced at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show. Through the development of new phosphors and cell design technology, their new display boasts doubled energy efficiency. By reducing energy consumption in half, plasma will be on at least an equal footing with LCD displays in this respect as well. Aside from the positive environmental impact and the monthly energy savings for individual consumers, the new plasma technology will provide additional advantages.
With their new technology, Panasonic is now demonstrating ultra-thin display profiles which are less than one inch deep, screens which are increasingly larger; 105 inches+, and displays which are capable of brighter images and higher definition despite lower power consumption. In addition to the improvements in the already outstanding picture quality, Panasonic will be able to offer wireless HD which will allow installation minus the wires.
Certainly, the television viewing choices for viewers continue to improve. With new technologies such as FED and OLED on the horizon those choices are expected to continue to expand. However, some of the more standard technologies, such as plasma, continue to evolve and will probably be viable contenders for a long time to come if Panasonic's newer plasma TV models are on the market as expected within the next 1 to 2 years.

LCD TV - The Good and the Bad

The Good
An LCD TV is very thin and light and therefore great to save space. Anyone who has an LCD monitor for their desktop computer will relate. Remember the large chunky one ones we used to all have? That is what a standard television set is like now. Along with great picture quality there is almost not static image burn-in problems because the fluorescent backlight is filtered by the liquid crystal in solid state.
The TV lasts a life time or for as long as 50,000 to 80,000 hours claimed by manufacturers. This outshines the plasma whose life expectancy is much less. These TVs will last as long as the backlight can produce white light. The backlight can be changed out too so they are extremely good value in that regard. It can also be doubled up for use with a computer of any kind. Most computers monitors are LCD anyway.
LCD's are economical meaning they are good for the environment. LCD TVs use less power than Plasma TV's or CRT TV's and in some cases less than half the power!
The Bad
They are not currently available in the larger sizes greater than 40in. When made in larger sizes, they are more expensive than plasmas.
The use of filters and a white backlight can reduce the quality of a true red green and blue output. Blacks look more like dark grays because some of the white light always passes through.
There is a possibility for reduced angle of vision. As the white light passes directly through an LCD pixel and the nature of polarizing filters, the viewing angle is decreased. You will notice loss of quality for blacks and colors at angles greater 20 degrees off axis.
To be fair I think the good outweighs the bad and they are extremely good value for money compared to the plasmas unless of course you want a really big screen.

menu clair pas aussi complet que sur la 37 pouces mais de quoi faire quand même
image TNT impeccable contraste et luminosité excellente dans le cuisine qui en cette saison est bien éclairé de soleil.
deux regret: pas de jauges qualité et force comme sur mes adaptateurs externes et pas de touche directe pour changer l'aspect ratio image!(il faut une touche+trois directions et choisir sur cinq formats c'est pas si rapide!)
le son est vraiment bon pas besoin de forcer.
connectiques bien: 1 hdmi, 1xcomposantes, 1 vga, 1 péritel (1 slot PCMCIA ??? pour l'instant inutile non?)

Why would you buy a Plasma TV?
Their key advantage: Plasma TV's offer the best picture. While LCD's and Plasma's are both very close in this regard, plasma tv's have the best contrast ratio. This means they have a wider range of colors, especially at the darker end, which makes for a much better overall picture.
The other minor advantages of plasma TV's? Well most people are concerned about cost, and inch for inch, plasma TV's are cheaper than LCD TV's. Plasma TV's also offer a wider viewing angle; LCD TV's tend to lose their picture when you watch them at a wider angle. Also Plasma TV's have a near instant response time, or time it takes to draw the picture, where as with LCD TV's you have to make sure the response time is below 8ms or the picture may look blury when displaying fast moving video's.

The key advantage LCD TV's offer is the fact they do not run the risk of image burn in. Image burn in means if a part of the picture does not change often enough (for example a network logo, a video game health meter, or a windows task bar), that image may get "burnt" into your flat screen TV so you can see a shadow of it when it is not supposed to be there. Plasma TV's are prone to this. Granted, the latest generation has greatly improved to reduce this problem. However if you spend many hours on your flat panel TV playing video games, or use it as a computer monitor, then an LCD TV is the safer option.
The other minor advantages of LCD TV's is that they generally use 30-40% less power, and they are much lighter which makes it easier if you want to mount your flat screen tv on the wall. For those who live in high altitudes (above 6500 feet) LCD TV's will perform better. As Plasma TV's use gas, they tend to struggle at those kind of heights. Finally, LCD TV's come in sizes below 32 inches, where as plasma TV's are only 32 inches and above.
Some myths and common questions
Myth: LCD TV's last longer than plasma TV's. Contrary to popular belief, LCD TV's no longer out live plasma TV's; not the latest generation anyway. It is true the first generation of plasma TV's died and lost their brightness very quickly, but now, both Plasma and LCD TV's have an expected half life of 60,000 hours. That means you can watch the flat screen TV for 6 hours a day for 27 years before the TV will be reduced to half of its brightness!
Myth: Only LCD TV's get dead pixels. A dead pixel is where a dot on your flat screen TV is permanently visible because that "pixel" has stopped working. This can happen to both plasma and LCD TV's, however it is less common for plasma TV's. In either case, it is important to consider the manufacturer's policy with regard to dead pixels.

Samsung is one of the world's most popular and respected LCD tv manufacturers. It is no wonder they are one of the best selling tvs on the market. They have reached this level of success by producing high performing tvs at a reasonable price.
So what do we have to look forward to in the new models? Samsung has taken an already good LCD tv in their LNT models and made some improvements for this model year.
The Samsung LCD tvs range from Series 3 which corresponds to the previous xx42 models, Series 4 which corresponds to the xx53 models, Series 5 corresponding to the xx61 and Series 6 corresponding to the xx71 models. They will also be adding Series 7 models.
The Series 3 and 4 models are 720p models and are available in up to 40inch models. These tvs are designed with many of the same components as the upper end models so you are still getting a good tv, even though it is more of an entry level type model. The LCDs allow easy connectivity through side ports with hot keys on the remote to allow easy access.
The Series 5 models open up the door to 1080p for a full high definition experience. They start with the 37inch models and go up to 52inches making these models a great starting point for setting up your home theater.
The Series 6 models add some significant performance upgrades and are 120HZ models. In addition these Samsung LCD tvs include ethernet connections for RSS downloads of weather, stock prices, news and sports scores. Also new in this model is the Touch of Color which adds an amber tint in the bezel for a more stylish design.
The newest Samsung LCD tvs have increased performance by increasing contrast ratio and improving on the response rate from last year's model. They have also made some improvements in the Auto Motion Plus technology for their 120Hz tvs. Of course all of the tvs are HDMI compatible and have multiple inputs for the many technologies that have begun utilizing HDMI.
It will be interesting to see what new developments come out in the coming years. Je possédais la 46w4000, j'ai voulu évoluer, j'ai lu les forums (faire très attention à ce qui se dit ! ) et heureusement que je ne les ai pas
pris au sérieux ! : L'évolution depuis la 4000 et la 5000 est flagrante !!! Je ne vais pas faire un long discours, juste dire que la fluidité est
impressionnante (en motion flow standard) et que le 24 p (24HZ) des blu ray est super bien traité !
Ensuite, les couleurs m'ont sauté aux yeux (et à ceux de mes proches) car elles sont 4 fois plus naturelles et belles et le contraste avec
tous les détails rajoutés vous mettent les larmes aux yeux !
Navigation menus des réglages très simple, du type playstation.
Etonnante et émouvante que cette sony KDL-46W5500.

je suis agréablement surpris par cet écran que j'ai acheté avec un lecteur blu ray de la même marque. Je branche mon disque dur directement sur la télévision par le port usb et je peux regarder des divx dans une qualité sympa(beaucoup mieux que sur mon pc!!!)
je pense que c'est grace à la fonction upscaling de mon lecteur et la qualité de cette télévision.
quant aux blu ray je suis vraiment épaté de leur qualité.Pour le son j'ai acheté des enceintes klipsch de pc qui ont un son génial(voir les divers essais)
Pour le port usb je l'ai débloqué en passant par la télécommande et en suivant les conseils d'un tutoriel sur le net
très simple et sans risque par rapport à méthode firmware

Toshiba - 32AV625D - TV LCD 32" - HD TV Review

Voilà 1 mois que je viens de recevoir ce téléviseur. Commande reçu moins de 4 jours après l'achat, que du bonheur. Ce téléviseur vient en remplacement d'un bon vieux cathodique Philips Black Line dont l'image était irréprochable. Hé bien je ne suis pas déçu, l'image du Toshiba est d'excellente qualité voir supérieure au Philips ( un peu trop sombre à mon goût sur le mode autoview mais très belle sur le mode standard). Son installation est très simple, le tuner TNT HD intégré est de très bonne facture car j'ai une meilleure réception des chaînes TNT qu'avec mon ancien décodeur externe. La connectique est complète, le port USB ne lit que les JPEG. Pour le prix ( 340 euros frais de port inclus ) je ne regrette pas mon ancien téléviseur. A acheter pour ceux qu'ils veulent un téléviseur de bonne qualité sans se ruiner. Cordialement.

Basically they work initially by blocking light. The display contains TN liquid crystals that are in between two perpendicular panes of glass that have been polarized. When light shines through this crystal matrix from one end out the other the intensity of the light is controlled and managed by the display. Displays with higher LCD TV ratings will manage this intensity more effectively. The variable voltage of the electrical charge that passes through will untwist the liquid crystals to vary the intensity of light in order for that light to pass through the second polarized pane. The display will then be able to go back and forth when the liquid crystals are fully twisted - more light passing through, and when the liquid crystals are fully untwisted - less light passing through. Higher LCD TV ratings will have a greater dark to light ratio.
The size of the display is difficult to manufacture in regards that more pixels and transistors must be added. The probability of a bad transistor being added to the display increases. It is not uncommon for manufactures to reject approximately 40 percent of LCD TVs that are produced. Advances in the manufacturing process has lead to more affordable large displays.
The display can control the full spectrum of light to create the proper color. All the colors in the spectrum is achieved by dividing each pixel into three sub-pixels of red, green and blue that work together to calculate the pixel's overall hue. Each sub-pixel can range over 256 shades of intensity. When you multiply 256 shades for each sub-pixel together (red, blue and green) you can achieve a palette of 16,8 million colors. Displays with higher LCD TV ratings will have lower amount of bad pixels which is caused if there is a problem with one of the transistors. The higher the resolution of the display the higher the amount of transistors the display contains since you are combining the 3 sub-pixels with the resolution.
Pixels: they are used to display the image and the process of addressing when the pixels are turned on and off in order to create the image on the display pane in front of you. The active-matrix inside LCD TV displays use TFTs, transistors and capacitors arranged in a matrix on a glass substrate which send electric signals down columns to the destination pixel. This will force the crystals to untwist and control the amount of light that passes through from the bulb in the back of the display panel.

J'ai fait l'acquisition de cette télévision durant l'été et j'en suis pleinement satisfait jusqu'à présent.

La qualité de l'image est très bonne que ce soit pour les sources HD que pour les sources SD.
En ce qui concerne le son, je le trouve très bien pour ma part mais un cinéphile voudra sans doute mieux avec un système home-cinéma.

En ce qui concerne le DLNA, je le trouve très pratique bien que parfois un peu capricieux en ce qui concerne les codecs audio ou vidéo supportés. Il m'ait déjà arrivé de voir des vidéos ne pouvant être lues ou le son ne pouvant être diffusé. Cela s'est produit en de cas assez rare tout de même.

J'ai pu également utilisé cet TV avec une xbox 360 et le rendu est excellent.

Le seul petit point "négatif" vient de l'utilisation des LED pour l'affichage en ce qui concerne les scènes où l'image comporte beaucoup de noir. En effet, pour afficher le noir, il semblerait que les LED soient en fait éteintes et donc la luminosité de la scène peut-être un peu plus réduite qu'elle ne le devrait pour les autres couleurs. Je ne l'ai remarqué que sur certaines scènes et cela n'est pas vraiment gênant à mon sens.

L'installation.
Terminé les réglages de chaines fastidieux le tout se fait en 10 minutes à l'aide de la télécommande et par le biais de question/réponse.
Le tuner TNT intégré vous offre encore le choix de scanner les chaines hertziennes (meme si tout cela voit ses jours compté).
Ceci dit un petit point noir, le modèle reçu ne contenait pas de notice en français.

L'image
De bonne qualité mais pour le prix nous sommes en HD ready (de toute façon sur des televisuers de 32 pouces (81 cm) les formats full HD sont difficillement perceptible pour le commun des mortels.
Un bon point pour ce LCD samsung la dalle matte important si votre téléviseur va être placé dans une pièce avec une ouverture sur l'extérieur dans votre dos. Les tubes fluorescent à cathode froide donne un rendu un peu tristounet au premier abord, mais tout ceci peut être réglé dans les différentes options des menus (passer en mode cinema, monter le contraste et la nétteté).
Après à chacun de régler en fonction de ses préférences.
Autre petit point noir un léger effet de clouding (rémanascence des images) se fait sentir, mais bon pour ce prix cela reste acceptable.

Le son
Honnéte, 2x10 watts, un systeme surrond intégré permet de rendre tout cela plus percutant(SRS TruSurround HD en clair un son Surround 5.1 virtuel), mais bon ça ne remplace pas un systeme 5.1. Ceci est du en partie aux enceintes qui donne sur l'arrière du téléviseur. Pour regarder les programmes télé on en demande pas plus, pour les dvd ça reste léger.

Les branchements
3 entrées hdmi (en 1.2 attention pas de 1.3),1 péritel,1 VGA, 1 YUV et 1 composite.
Une prise USB est disponible et là encore attention ne pensez pas pouvoir regarder des films ou photo avec elle ne sert qu'à mettre à jour le firmware. Une prise antenne.
Côté son une jack Stéréo et 2 RCA Stéréo en entrée et en sortie 1 optique Numérique et 1 RCA Stéréo.

A l'utilisation
Pour l'utilisateur lambda, la telecommande est simple et fonctionnel, mais la richesse des menus donne accés à de nombreux réglages et paramétrages (tant imgage que son), de plus le suivi des programmes sur les différentes chaînes de la TNT (possiblités d'afficher la suite des programmes et les informations sur les diffusions en cours).
Un très bon rapport qualité/prix dans l'ensemble, simplicité d'installation et d'utilisation, pour tous ceux qui veulent avoir un premier LCD ou un second dans une chambre sans trop se ruiner.
Pour les plus cinéphiles orienter vous sur des dalles full HD, et des branchements plus perfectionner.

It plays all Youtube videos directly from the Internet using its Texas Instruments davinci processor. It also supports live pre-listed webtv streaming channels, it uses vtap.com to pull search results for videos accross many more video portals then just Youtube. It also supports pre-listed video-podcast RSS feeds and movie rentals as downloaded or streamed video-on-demand. Plasma TV or LCD - Which Should You Choose?

When it comes to high quality flat screen TVs, there are a number of choices available these days and the technology is constantly improving. However, as each competing TV screen technology matures and improves, the differences between them become more difficult to detect. And so it is with the comparison between LCD and plasma TVs.
The big advantages of both kinds of TV monitors is that they are very thin, only a few inches thick. Because of that you can choose to either place them on a stand, as you have with televisions you have owned in the past, or mount them to the wall instead. They both also produce stunningly beautiful visual displays, especially when coupled with high definition television programming. But there are some subtle differences that you will want to be aware of though.
Plasma TVs have been in use for many years and they use inert gases that are illuminated to display colors on individual pixels on the screen. Their best feature is the high contrast image that they reproduce. The colors are extremely vivid and sharp and this is mostly due to the fact that plasma TVs are able to exhibit true saturated blacks, whereas other monitors, LCDs included, usually have some compromise in how much true black they display.
Plasma screens are also easily viewed from almost any angle and so if you have a wide room with seating that extends out at an angle from the front of the television set, you may want to consider this advantage, although recently many LCD TVs have been steadily improving in their accepted viewing angle.
One area that plasma TVs have historically had a disadvantage is in the amount of electricity needed to power them and how hot they run. It can cost more to run a plasma TV if you use it very regularly, and it can generate quite a bit of heat inside, enough to warrant most manufacturers making use of a fan to cool them down as they run. This is not a noticeable problem unless the fan makes noise that can be distracting. So be sure to actually view a plasma TV before buying that particular model and see if the fan noise is a problem.
Another quirk of plasma TVs is that they can be susceptible to screen burn-in, which happens when one image is left on the screen for a very long time and it then becomes "burned into" the screen so that you can still faintly see it even when another image is displayed. This can happen on some TV channels that display an image that stays in a certain part of the screen for a long time, and if you play video games, there may also be a possibility that some games can cause this problem. So ask yourself before buying how you intend to use the TV, and if you happen to view programming that may have static screen images a lot of the time, it may be wise to choose an LCD screen as it does not suffer from this problem.
LCD TVs may not produce deep contrasty images like plasma monitors do, but the colors are still very pleasing and they can also be a better choice for brightly lit rooms since their display is not as susceptible to ambient light influences. However, they can tend to get more pricey than plasma TVs once you go above the 40 inch screen size.
All in all though, either type of TV screen technology will do a great job for you. The best recommendation is before you buy, visit a local electronics retailer and view representatives from plasma screens and LCDs. Bring along your own movie that you are familiar with and look for the differences. Then choose the one that makes the most sense to you. There is no need to buy from the store as you can often save lots of money by making your purchase online instead, but by doing your homework you can make a more informed buying decision.

Plasma TV or LCD TV? What's REALLY the difference?
It's no doubt that there's still a lot of confusion and misinformation when it comes to the differences between Plasma TV and LCD TV. So how do you know which technology is right for you?
Well, it's not a simple matter of Plasma TV is better, or LCD TV is better. It really depends on your circumstances and preferences. Let's talk about the differences and the pros and cons for each, as well as some of the misconceptions regarding these TVs, and hopefully that will help you in your decision making process.
Many people confuse Plasma TVs and LCD TVs because at a quick glance they look the same...they're both flat screen TVs, with a thin profile, which can be mounted on a wall. They're definitely both very cool technologies. They share other similarities, of course, such as screen resolution, input types, and a few others, but Plasma TVs and LCD TVs are totally different technologies, and there are differences that you should be aware of.
The purpose of this article isn't to explain the technical operation of Plasma TV and LCD TV, but rather to talk about the practical, real world differences that will help you in your decision making process. A very brief explanation of the basic operation, however, might help in your understanding of why the differences exist.
The pixels in a Plasma TV consist of phosphor lined cells filled with xenon and neon gas. Each pixel consists of a red, green and blue component, which combine to reproduce the full spectrum of colors. Plasma TVs are an "emissive" display technology, which means it's self-lighting.
LCD TVs are different in the sense that they are a "transmissive" display technology. Meaning the light is not produced by the LCD crystal, but rather from a light source behind the panel. A diffusion panel is used to redirect and scatter the light from behind the LCD panel. The LCD Panel itself is formed by two transparent panels with a liquid crystal solution between them. Each crystal is a like a shutter that either allow a predetermined amount of light to pass through, or block light from passing through.
So with that very basic explanation, and all of the information and misinformation out there, how do you decide which is better for you? Each technology has its pros and cons, so let's talk about those now. Keep in mind that within both technologies, there is a huge range of quality, so our comparisons will be comparing Plasma TVs and LCD TVs which are of equal quality.
What are the advantages of Plasma TV?
Probably the three most notable advantages Plasma TVs have over LCD TVs are their ability to produce very good black levels, their wide viewing angles, and a faster response time.
Better black levels mean that when you're viewing a black image, the Plasma TV reproduces closer to a true black than an LCD TV, and you'll also see better contrast in the black images. If you're viewing a dark scene in a movie, you'll notice the color on a good Plasma TV appears black, whereas on even the best LCD TV is appears to be a very dark gray or dark blue. You'll also notice more detail in the Plasma TV on dark scenes. This is because of the LCD TVs are transmissive, and when they're reproducing a black image, they're blocking the light from passing through. A tiny amount of light is able to leak through, which is why LCD TVs are not able to reproduce as good of a black level as Plasma TVs. LCDs have made big improvements in their black levels, but Plasma TV is still better in this area.
For the same reason, Plasma TVs have a wider viewing angle. This means if you're viewing the TV from the extreme side, or above or below, the Plasma TV pictures will remain bright and sharp. LCDs will display some loss of brightness and become harder to view from extreme angles, although their viewing angles have improved significantly so that this is not an issue for most people.
The response time refers to the time it takes a pixel to go from black to white, then back to black. Plasma TVs have a better response time than LCD TVs, which means that they do a better job with fast motion images, such as sports and video games. LCD TVs have been know to produce what's know as "ghosting" because of a slower response time. As with black levels and viewing angles, this also has significantly improved in LCD TVs as many are now rated at under 8ms, and many think it's a non-issue now. Some, however, still think complain about slight ghosting effects with LCD.
Some of the common misconceptions with Plasma TVs are that they will only last 5 years, the plasma gas leaks and needs to be replaced, and if you leave an image on the screen for a couple of hours you will "burn in" the screen.
The early generation plasmas were not rated to last very long, but over the last few years the life expectancy of the plasma panel is usually around 60,000 hours...which translates to 20 to 25 years for most people. This is now very much in line with the life expectancy of LCD TVs, and your electronic components of both your Plasma TV and LCD TV are far more likely to go than the plasma panel itself, so this really isn't a practical concern for either technology.
Although not heard so much anymore, the question of gas leaking still comes up from time to time. The gas inside of the plasma panels is sealed in during the manufacturing process and there are no issues with the gas leaking and having to be replaced. If something goes wrong with the panel itself, it must be replaced. It cannot be refilled, recharged, or repaired, so this is a misconception.
Since the Plasma TV is a phosphor based image, it is susceptible to screen burn in, meaning if you leave a static image (CNBC Ticker symbol, video games, etc) on the screen for long periods of time, it will become permanently ingrained into the TV, effectively ruining your TV. Manufacturer's Warranties do not cover this and this was a concern in the early Plasma TVs. While it's a very real issue, in my many years of retail sales, I've only seen this in a small handful of cases. The Plasma TV manufacturers have taken steps to almost eliminate this as a concern for most users. With that said, if you are taking things to the extreme and only watching one channel every day for three weeks, there's a good chance it will be an issue. In this case you're better off with an LCD TV, which does not have this issue.
So what are the advantages of LCD TVs?
Some of the advantages to LCD TVs are they are more energy efficient than Plasma TVs, they are physically lighter, they produce a brighter picture, and most LCD TVs have an anti-reflective screen.
Being more energy efficient doesn't just save on the electrical bill, but also saves on the life of your electronics. The hotter electronics run, and the harder they work, the shorter they last. Plasma TVs tend to be less efficient and produce more heat than LCD TVs.
LCD TVs are lighter than Plasma TVs, because Plasma TV panels are made with two glass panels, which add quite a bit to the weight, particularly in larger sets. It's nice when you have to hang your TV on the wall, or move it, but you must still take the same care when you're mounting it, as they're still heavy and awkward to deal with.
For the same reason, LCD TVs are often a better fit in bright rooms. The glass that's used on Plasma TVs is most of the time very reflective, which means if you have a lot of direct light, then you'll experience a lot of glare with your Plasma TV. Most LCD TVs have a flat-finish, or anti-glare screen which deflects glare making it almost a non-issue. There are some LCD TVs that use a reflective screen over the panel, so if this is an issue, be sure to check before you purchase your TV.
LCD TVs are also brighter than Plasma TVs, which can be an advantage, but not always. In bright rooms, this will help with viewing but in low light situations, often times a TV with lower brightness will display a better picture.
LCD TVs were priced quite a bit higher than Plasma TVs even up to a year ago, but their prices have rapidly declined as manufacturers figured out how to manufacture larger panels, which means they can "cut" more of the smaller LCD panels out of a larger panel. This has driven the prices down significantly and now prices are much more in line with Plasma TVs.
LCD TVs have also gotten the jump when it comes to the newer 1080p resolution, which displays a progressive 1920 x 1080 resolution. There are more LCD TVs available in 1080p, although in the last 6 months there have been more Plasma TVs coming out with this resolution.
So what do we think?
It's hard to say definitively which technology is better, or which technology you should invest in. In my opinion, Plasma TV still has the better picture. But of course, that's subjective, and I know many people that think that LCD TV has the better picture. To me, the Plasma TV picture is more natural, with a more accurate color reproduction, and it still has much better black levels than LCD TV.
But it's a tough decision, because LCD TVs have dropped in price quickly and the outstanding issues with LCD TV have been greatly improved so that the two are very close. Of course, the picture quality verses the price will influence your decision, but now you can get either technology for a great price.
So what things should you consider when making your decision? Keep in mind your viewing situation. Are you in a very bright room? Will your TV have direct light shining on it? Are you mostly watching a single channel or playing video games all day? If so, I'd say an LCD is probably the way to go.

Revisiting History - How LCD TV-The World's Current Number One TV Technology-Came About

We all know that the world's number one TV technology today is none other than the LCD TV. The technology used by its competitors known as Plasma and DLP are all left far behind.
Today, LCD TV demands have rapidly grown worldwide. The LCD TV's expanded technology makes it the most up-to-date in high definition televisions today. It can even be compared with the technologies used by that of IBM and DVD. However, have you ever wondered how this number one TV technology came about?
The technology of LCD was discovered by an Austrian scientist named Friedrich Reinitzer. Friedrich Reinitzer discovered the properties of liquid crystallization more than 80 years ago in 1888. Later on, George Heilmeier, who was an Electrical Engineer from the University of Pennsylvania, made the first efforts of utilizing the process of liquid crystallization for commercial products. Besides being an Electric Engineer, Heilmeier also held MA, M.S.E, and PhD's in several fields of Solid State Electronics. All of these achievements he garnered from Princeton University. In the RCA Laboratories, he worked with Richard Williams, Lucian Barton and Louis Zanoni. He also worked with Joseph Catellano, Nunzio, Luce and Joel Goldmacher. During his work at the RCA Laboratories, he experimented one by one with different molds and worked with the different liquid crystallization methods. The work he performed at the RCA eventually became stepping stones in shaping the LCD TV technology as it is being used today.
But before the method of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) was applied to be used on televisions, there have been several stages of experimentation with the LCD technology.
In the RCA laboratories during the time of George Heilmeier, there were a lot of experiments done using liquid crystals. As a result of these several experiments, George Heilmeier and his team found out that this technology, the LCD, can be crafted to be used for digital gadgets. Such digital gadgets include digital clocks, digital watches, digital calculators and many more. Its potentials were limitless. The digital alarm that we commonly use in our watches today is attributed to the work done by George Heilmeier at the RCA.
The next in line to be expanding the LCD technology was James Fergason. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri. He was the associate director of the Liquid Crystal Institute in Kent State University. While being an associate director there, he discovered something called the nematic field effect. This discovery subsequently took the technology of the LCD that he had inherited from Heilmeier's team toward the modern LCD technology that we currently use today.
However, Fergason's discovery of present day LCD technology was not perfected squarely at that instant. When his team debut their first LCD TV in the year 1971, it was a disaster. Everyone was disappointed. The images reflected in his team's television were filled with "phantom images" during the TV's action broadcasting.
They had to make a lot of adjustments. After adding a method called "reverse pull-down correction" their LCD TV became a hit. The picture quality was excellent and there were hardly any picture distortion during transmission of images. Because of this success, Fergason started his own corporation. With his corporation he then forged over 100 patents worldwide.
Today, viewers of television using LCD TV's report having a one of a kind viewing experience. At the rate of the LCD TV's popularity, LCD TV's are to replace the old CRTs as the technology to be used in the future of television manufacturing. Especially now that LCD TVs has amazing capabilities of providing high viewing resolutions which, when connected to all other electronic gadgets, deliver a home theater experience.
